Removable Cast Partials or Dentures
Dentures are used to either replace a few missing (partial denture) teeth or all missing teeth (complete dentures). Dentures rely on support from remaining teeth in that jaw (in case of partial dentures) and underlying ridge/ bone.
They are all removable and have to be cleaned and stored in water container at night. It can be either conventional or immediate. Framework can be made of resin, metal or a combination.
A conventional denture is made and placed in patients mouth after the teeth to be removed are extracted and tissues have healed. The healing may take about 8-12 weeks post extraction.
Immediate dentures are fabricated in advance (before extraction) and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed. As a result, the wearer does not have to be without the teeth during the healing period.
